The 2008 AUSABLE RIVER CANOE MARATHON DVD

The Weyerhaeuser AuSable River Canoe Marathon is a two-day, non-stop one-hundred-twenty mile canoe race across the state of Michigan. The marathon celebrated it's 61st running in 2008, and saw over seventy-five teams vying for their share of the over $50,000 prize pool.

It begins at 9:00 PM, on the last Saturday of July in Grayling, and teams must reach the finish in Oscoda by 4:00 PM the following afternoon. Above is a short race promo, the full video of the whole two-day event is available on DVD.

The Weyerhaeuser AuSable River Canoe Marathon is widely recognized as the "Longest, Richest,
Toughest Canoe Race in North America". The 2007 race saw champions Andy Triebold and Matt Rimer
win the race by less than 1 minute in front of the
second place team, Matt Streib & Steve Corlew.

The 45-minute video covers the entire 120-mile race, which starts in Grayling, MI at 9 PM,
and finishes in Oscoda, MI the following afternoon.

The video offers great insight into the growing sport of marathon style canoe racing, by highlighting
the technique of some of the world's best paddlers. It also helps explain why over fifty-thousand
spectators follow this race every year.

"The AuSable Canoe Marathon is one of the most physically and mentally demanding events in the world. To successfully complete this event you must have a C-2 racing canoe, be an expert canoeist, in excellent physical condition and able to navigate in darkness the upper eighty miles of the AuSable River while avoiding deadfalls, stumps and being lost in the vast impoundments upriver of the Mio and Alcona dams. Those unprepared for these conditions risk their own well-being and that of their partner." For more information on other Michigan canoe / kayak / paddle sports events visit:
